2019 EDNA Dues Poll Results

After a raucous EDNA meeting on Tuesday, January 15th the motion was approved to poll 2018 members regarding membership dues.  The poll, reading as follows, was sent via email to all 46 member households on January 18th.

On January 15th at the Emerald Drive Neighborhood Association (EDNA) meeting a motion was approved to poll 2018 members regarding the annual dues.  The motion reads:
 
     "Canvas the 2018 paid membership as to whether they are in favor (or not) of lowering the 2019 Membership Dues from $100 to $25."

At our EDNA meeting on July 25th the residents in attendance approved an annual dues amount of $100 per household.   During the 2018 calendar year EDNA had 46 households join.  We ended the year with $3,000 in the bank after all the setup fees and neighborhood party expenses were paid. 

During the August 18th, 2018 meeting a motion was made by Cindy Black, seconded by Jason Proffitt, and subsequently approved to create a Triangle Beautification Committee to beautify the Lake Jodeco Road / Emerald Drive intersection.  No budget was approved at that time.  Neil Farmer volunteered to chair the committee. The majority of EDNA funds collected will go toward this project when plans are finalized. Providing a 3/4" water meter alone will cost $2,125 to install. 

Proponents of lowering the dues recommended that members be assessed as needed to pay for projects with expenses beyond the funds on-hand.  

If the majority of the households approve the dues reduction from $100 to $25, those residents who have already joined and paid dues for 2019 will be reimbursed the difference. If the reduction is not approved the annual dues amount will remain $100.  The bylaws will be amended to reflect any changes at the next EDNA meeting on March 20th. 

There are 147 properties on Emerald Drive & Emerald Court eligible to join EDNA. 

Primary proponent for leaving the dues at $100 until such time as the major projects are complete - Neil Farmer

Primary proponent for reducing the dues to $25 and asking for additional funds as needed - Charlotte Stone-Black

- Only one (1) vote per household. 
- Respondents must reply by Friday, February 1st at 5:00 p.m. 
- The results will be posted on the website & Facebook.

The results from the EDNA dues poll are in.  The poll ended on Friday, February 1st at 5:00  PM. The poll asked all 2018 EDNA members if the 2019 EDNA annual membership dues should be reduced to $25.  There were only two (2) responses, they were "Yes" I vote to reduce the dues, or "No" I vote to leave the dues at $100.  There were 37 respondents during the two weeks the poll was open.  All responses were anonymous.  Each response only recorded the IP address of the respondent.  All the responses were from unique IP addresses. Of the poll responses 11 voted "Yes" and 26 voted "No". The majority of respondents voted to leave the 2019 EDNA annual dues at $100.

I hope that those who voted to reduce the dues will consider joining this year at the higher dues amount than they preferred. However, EDNA membership is voluntary.  You should join because you trust in our plans, or at least our sincere desire, to improve our neighborhood. 

Now that the dues question has been put to rest EDNA can focus on other more important issues.
