This is my first Emerald Drive Neighborhood Association blog. I'll try to post here any major changes I've made to the website, Facebook group page, Instagram account, and anything else that might be relevant to residents. None of these sites have been advertised to the neighborhood yet as I continue to add content.
I came up with the the Emerald Drive Neighborhood Association or EDNA name after discussing this project with a few neighbors. One neighbor wanted to disassociate us, this association, from the clutter of Lake Spivey neighborhoods. I wasn't convinced at first. In fact, I thought we should just revive or continue the old Lake Spivey Estates name. That's still the name of our neighborhood. I've come around to the EDNA. Lake Spivey Estates was a homeowners association. It had legally binding rules, though rudimentary, like any HOA. As a neighborhood association we are a voluntary group akin to the Grant Park Neighborhood Association. We will have no legal authority to force residents to pay dues, lien properties, or dictate what color your house can be painted. We will be able to organize residents, communicate efficiently, and hopefully standardize administration of the nine (9) Reserved Mooring Strips (RMS). In addition to the social media sites, I've been diligently working on the directory. I've imported the current directory into a new Google Gmail account - emeralddrivena@gmail.com. The account had 147 contacts when I started. I've bumped it up to 160. Since there are about 160 properties I'd expect there to be somewhere between 160 and 320 contacts. I guess I've got some work to do. Ultimately I'd like to create a file that residents can import into their own contacts or cellphones each year, as well as print a copy, if that's preferred. Soon I'll send out an e-mail inviting residents to join the Facebook page and follow us on Instagram. Along with the fun computer stuff, there's also legal stuff that has to get done. Specifically, we've got to create the corporation which will be the entity that is the association. Other tasks remaining are defining membership, dues, goal, events, and the list goes on.
